So, I love Paris Hilton and here's why:
1. The girl is absolutely famous for being named Paris Hilton. How awesome can that be. She just sort of became famous as a sort of new kind of celeb, the so-called celebutante, a word that I don't agree with, but it does seem to suit Ms. Hilton perfectly.
2. She's proved she's human. Sure, she got in trouble with the law, and her family tried to keep her from owning up to her crimes, but hey, she stayed in jail, hopefully learned her lesson (even though she's still hard partying), and those pictures of her crying were priceless (not just because of the intense amount of schadenfreude).
3. And lastly, and also possibly, most controversially, I think she's actually really smart. I'm not saying that I think she's smart enough to be faking the whole stupid act that she does. But as far as business is concerned, she makes a lot of good moves. I mean, first there's her books, all of which make money (especially Tinkerbell's book). Then, there's the proceeds from her album, her "acting" endeavors and The Simple Life stuff. She's got a lot going on and I'm pretty sure that she knows what she's doing. Ooh, don't forget, she also gets paid to show up at clubs (a gig I'm super-jealous of).
What brought that on was that I was reading some other blog or something outlining that Paris is everything wrong with America. Really? Because I thought what America represented was the pursuit of fame, consumerism and stupidity, feigned or not. So, while I agree that she represents America, I'm not sure it's everything wrong with it.
In other news, work was long and boring today. Match.com says that my most compatible match is a guy with whom I have zero in common (we went to high school together). Oh, and it rained all the way home. And now, it's off to bed, because I am exhausted and can barely keep my eyes open.
Ok, so last night was strange. Went over to my friend Lucy's and had a weird night. We watched Ugly Betty which was really awesome. Like I've said, I love the soaps, and that had suds all over it. It was great. It definitely reminded me of the Colombian original, Yo Soy Betty, La Fea. It's tons better than the Mexican version and Salma Hayek's cameo appearance was delightfully well-done. Then, we watched Grey's Anatomy and Peter and Cathy were talking through the entire thing, and I yelled at them. Several times. Thankfully I taped it, so I can rewatch it without having people yell about what happened in the first 2 seasons.
Then, we went to some stupid place called 8 Lounge. It has the look of some really swanky club, but it's really just a loud bar with pushy security people and no dancefloor. We found a spot to sit finally, and I had a rum and diet. Peter got up to get more drinks and got me one more. Only he didn't tell me that he put double the rum in it, so it was like ALL liquor. Luckily I didn't have too much to drink before we went out, so I was perfectly fine, not drunk at all. But the club was filled with Asians, which I'm not against, but it's uncomfortable to be around a whole bunch of one ethnicity and be one of the few white people around. We left and went back to Lucy's for some lasagna and wine. Good times.
So, that was my Thursday night.
